GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 11013

WHEREAS by letters dated the 19th September, 2019, Ref: IEBCNRE0/2/12 and Ref: IEBC/VREO/2/13, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission informed the Clerk of the National Assembly and the Clerk of the Senate, respectively, of the dates on which the Punguza Mizigo Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2019, a draft Bill for the amendment of the Constitution by popular initiative proposed by Thirdway Alliance Kenya, was submitted to each County Assembly for consideration, pursuant to Article 257(5) of the Constitution; And whereas upon approval by a County Assembly of a draft Bill to amend the Constitution by popular initiative, Article 257 (6) of the Constitution requires the Speaker of the County Assembly to deliver a copy of the draft Bill to the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament with a certificate that the County Assembly has approved the draft Bill; It is notified for the information of the general public that the status of delivery by the County Assemblies to the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament of the draft Bill and certificate is as set out in the Schedule; It is further notified that as set out in the Schedule three County Assemblies approved the draft Bill and that consequently the threshold required under Article 257 (7) of the Constitution for introduction of the Bill in Parliament has not been met.
