NOTICE is given to all Senators that— PURSUANT to section 33 (3) of the County Governments Act, Cap 265 and standing order 80 (1) (a), the Speaker of the Senate convened a meeting of the Senate on Wednesday, 14th August, 2024, to hear charges against Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, the Governor of Meru County; FURTHER pursuant to standing Order 80 (b) (ii) of the Senate Standing Orders, the Senate by resolution, on Wednesday, 14th August, 2024, resolved to investigate the proposed removal from office by impeachment, of Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, the Governor of Meru County in plenary; AND THAT pursuant to standing order 30 (1), as read together with standing order 1 of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Monday, 19th August, 2024, and Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, as days for special sittings of the Senate. The sittings shall be held in the Senate Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi. The sittings shall be held as follows— (a) on Monday, 19th August, 2024, commencing at 9.00 a.m.; and (b) on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, commencing at 9.00 a.m. until the conclusion of the business of the day. The business to be transacted at the sittings shall be – (a) consideration of the Joint Report of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations on the approval hearing for Douglas Kanja Kirocho, the nominee for appointment to the position of Inspector-General of the National Police Service; (b) consideration of a motion on the alteration of the Senate Calendar for the third session; and (c) the investigation of the proposed removal from Office by Impeachment of Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, the Governor of Meru County; In accordance with standing order 33 (5) of the Senate Standing Orders, the business specified in this Notice shall be the only business before the Senate during the Special Sittings, following which the Senate shall stand adjourned until Tuesday, 3rd September, 2024, at 2.30 p.m. in accordance with the Senate calendar.
