Pursuant to regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Kenya Railways Corporation is proposing to establish the Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD) that will be the main transshipment point between the SGR and road for freight traffic that is destined for western Kenya and beyond. Social interactions • Consider a comprehensive Public and Stakeholders Engagement Plan. • Consider Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy. • Other social tools to include worker's welfare guideline, Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM), Safety and health plan and Labour compliance plan. • Influence the social development around the facility in liaison with County and National Government Authorities. Land use issues • Collaboration with county departments for sustainable land use planning. • Consider development of Land Use Zoning and Control Plan. • Liaise with service providers to ensure equity and avoid future social conflicts. Waste management • Operator to prepare a comprehensive waste management plan for the yard. • Ensure waste collection, transfer and removal follows the 3R principles. • Waste collection and disposal by Licensed Waste Handlers. • Hazardous and toxic wastes to be isolated for specialized handling. Drainage issues • Prepare and implement a comprehensive Drainage Management Plan. • Provide all drains from pollution point sources with interceptors and grit traps. • Install all drainage outfalls with appropriate oil/grease interceptors and grit traps. • Ensure no conflict with downstream receiving entities (SGR and Landowners). Traffic management • Re-designed junction at Maai Mahiu — Narok (B3) with signage and traffic Environmental and Social Aspects Management Actions marshals. Continuous • Undertake initial audit upon improvement and commissioning. compliance • Ensure subsequent annual self-audits of the facility. • Ensure environmental quality monitoring.
