The proposed project will be situated in the Keiyan Hills in the LUCY NDUNGU. former Keiyan Group Ranch. along Awendo-Kilgoris Road.Kilgoris Deputy O#icfc/ Receiver. Division in Trans Mara District. on 6.0 hectare site plot No. L.R. 259. * 23rd December, 2005 THE KENYA GAZER'TE 3143 The objective of the proposed sugar company project is to meet the GAZET-I.E No-ncE No. 10167i ncreasing demand of sugar in the country. The proposed prpjtct will be congqucted on jublic land set aside for a dam construction. This parcel of Iand is located at Nzawamgongoni Sub-location, Migwani Division of Mwingi District 30 kilometres from Mwingi Town and about 10 kilometres south of Nguutani Markd Centre. Tlle objective of the project is to construct an earth dam that will continuously provide clean water to theksurrounding communities. ' The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation meastlres: Possible impacts 1. Bush cleldng 2. Noise qollution and dust .generatlon (J) Provision' of protective clothing to workers. (bj Give prior notice of activities and time duradon. Mitigation raeaçl/re.ç Bury vegetative matter in pits ând utilize the wood. (b) Fencing of the facility to keep away unauthorized persons. (c) First aid training and fire drills for factory workers. (d) Use of suitable personal protective equipment. (e) Incidence manalement and emergency evacuatlon plans will be put in place. @ Reduce iraffic accidents by ensuring proper illumination of vehiclees. 2. Pollution of Enooseaa River (J) Water abstraction to be licensed and monitored by relevant authorities under tbe Waler Act, 2002. (b) Erect an industrial . effluent treatment plant lined with impermeable geotextiles or reinforced away from the aquifer zones. (c) Installatiod of oi1 receptors. 3. Waste management and air (a) Waste containers to be pollution control incinerated within the company premises. (b) Labelling of waste tanks and qontainers for easy identit-içation. (c) Training of waste handlers on hazardous waste. (d) Provide an impermeable pavement structure. a septic tank and soak pit. ' (e) Providc a waste treatment facility to handle industrial liquid .effluent. @ Emission of gases from the chimney toxbe mitigated by use of smoke screens and scrubber.
