GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 17618

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 38 (1) of the Physical and Land Use Planning Act, notice is given that the County Government of Uasin Gishu intends to commence preparation of the above plan on the 19th December, 2025. The objectives of the Plan are— (a) To provide an overall GIS-based physical and land-use development framework for the county; (b) to depict the social and economic development programs; (c) to show how the spatial plan is linked to the regional, national and other county plans; (d) to ensure harmony between the national, county and sub- county spatial planning requirements; (e) to facilitate the development of a well-balanced system of settlements and ensure productive use of scarce land, water and other resources for economic, social, ecological and other functions; (f) to indicate and guide desired patterns of land use; (g) to provide strategic guidance in respect to the location and nature of development countywide; (h) to set out basic guidelines for a land use management system; (i) to propose mechanisms of dealing with the rural-urban interfaces; (j) to identify areas of strategic intervention; (k) to indicate the areas designated for conservation and recreation; to maintain a viable system of green and open spaces for a functioning eco-system; and (l) to provide the preconditions for integrating under-developed and marginalized areas to bring them to the level generally enjoyed by the rest of the County. The purpose of the plan is to provide a strategic and holistic framework that guides the physical, social and economic development of the county. It shall be a basis for: co-ordinating sectoral development in the County; provision of major social and physical infrastructure; guiding and controlling developments; setting guidelines, norms and standards for land use planning; decision making on major economic investments; environmental protection, conservation and management; prioritization of projects and appropriation of public funds. The extent of the area covered: The plan covers the entire Uasin Gishu County measuring approximately 3,345.2 Km2. The information to be set out in the plan shall include: County physical and natural characteristics; socio-economic characteristics; infrastructure and services; land, human settlements and urban development; sectoral policies, strategies and actions; general proposals for the development and use of land; projects prioritization program; implementation, monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
