GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 11212

WHEREAS, The National Land Commission is established under Article 67 (1) of the Constitution; WHEREAS, The National Land Commission Act (Chapter 281, Laws of Kenya) operationalises the mandate of the Commission by, inter alia, establishing a legal framework for identification and appointment of the Chairperson, Members and the Secretary of the Commission in accordance with Article 250(2) and (12)(a) of the Constitution, and for connected purposes; WHEREAS, Pursuant to Article 250(6) of the Constitution, a member of a commission or the holder of an independent office is appointed for a single non- renewable term of six years; WHEREAS, The inaugural chairperson and members of the Commission assumed office on 27th February, 2013, and the subsequent complement on 15th November, 2019; WHEREAS, There are impending vacancies in the membership of the Commission arising from the anticipated lapse of the six-year non-renewable term of office of the current members with effect from 14th November, 2025; and WHEREAS, There exists a constitutional duty to ensure a seamless transition in the management of affairs of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices by initiating the recruitment process at least six months prior to the end of the term of incumbent officeholders. NOW Therefore, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Section 7(2) of the Act as read with Paragraph (1) of the First Schedule to the Act, do hereby: 15th August, 2025 THE KENYA GAZETTE I. DECLARE impending vacancies in the positions of Chairperson and Member of the Commission, with effect from 14th November, 2025; II. CONSTITUTE a Selection Panel for recruitment of nominees for appointment as Chairperson and Members of the National Land Commission; and III.
