THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the -Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study •Report for the implementation of proposed mining of gypsum. The project is located in Tula Valley, Tana River District, Coast Province. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures: Possible Impacts I. Air pollution 2. Possible Impacts Mitigation Measures 3.Noise • Maintenance, modification and upgrading of plant and equipment. 4.Health and safety • Use of safety gears like ear muffins, gloves, goggle to be strictly enforced. •Review of the entire safety protocol with respect to quarry safety in order to improve it. 5. Loss of land through wastage • Targeted and ordered approach to mining. •Leave land of which there is no intention to quarry undisturbed. •Rehabilitation of exhausted blocks. The National Environmental Management Authority, invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, National Environmental Management Authority, to assist the authority in the approval process of the project.
