THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT
(No. 8 of 1999)
REGULATION
PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact
Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment
Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of proposed man steel mill on plot No. MV/478 and MV/479, Kiliti.
The proposed project entails the manufacture high quality steel from scrap metal using electric arc furnace technology.
The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures:
Possible Impacts Mitigation Measures
1. Solid waste management • All solid waste generated will be managed and disposed according to the waste management regulations, 2006.

PH adjustment to precipitate heavy metal.
•Physical treatment by filtration to remove solids.
4. Dust disturbance
• Regular sprinkling of water on open surface and dust grounds.
•Selective cutting of trees on the site.
Planting trees on open areas.
•Provision of dust mask to employees.
5. Noise disturbance • Construction work to be limited to daytime only.
•Immediate neighbours to be notified in writing on the date of commencement of construction work at least one month in advance.
•Provision of ear protectors to workers.

•Noisy machines to be fitted with noise reduction devices. .
•Provide all workers with appropriate working tools and equipment.
•Provide all workers with appropriate personal protective equipment.
•First aid facilities and services to he readily available on site.
•The slug to he stabilized to remove heavy metals and to ensure that resulting lactates arc within the acceptable environmental standards.

National Environmental Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within sixty (60) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director General, NEMA, to assist the Authority in the approval process of the project.
