IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by the Constitution of Kenya, Section 14 (2) of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act (Cap. 7) and Regulation 41(2) (b) of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Regulations, the Interim Independent Electoral Commission certifies that Gitari Joseph Gachoki has been declared the winner of the Kirinyaga Central Parliamentary seat following the by-elections held on 16th February, 2011. The Results of the By-elections are as follows: (a) Valid Votes cast for Gitari Joseph Gachoki were (in figures) 18,520 (in words) Eighteen Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty. (b) Total Votes cast against the voters register were (in figures) 38,702 (in words) Thirty Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and Two. Rejected Votes (in figures) 447 (in words) Four Hundred and Forty-Seven. Total Valid Votes (in figures) 38,255 (in words) Thirty Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Five. (c) Votes cast as per each candidate are as indicated in the schedule respectively.
