THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT
(No. 8 of 1999)
REGULATION
PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact
Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment
Management Authority, (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of the proposed complex commercial development.
The proponent intends to construct a complex commercial development. The structure is expected to house many facilities that include:
Hyper market
Atriums
IKEA
Food Court
Shops
Offices
Conference Hall
Cinema Halls
Toilet Blocks
Car Parks
The proposed complex commercial development will be located on plot L.R. No. 12803/28-30, 36-39, 44-45 along Thika Road in
Kasarani, Nairobi North. The project site is near Roysambu Round
About, next to Roysambu Pub. It is neighboured by St. Catherine

Secondary School, Jesus winners Church, Faith Harvest Church and
St. Kizito training Institute.
The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures:
Possible Impact Mitigation measures
Spills of oil and other hazardous chemicals from construction equipment
Spill prevention procedures and response plan.
Off-site maintenance of fuel powered equipment and vehicles.
Spill control kit is available on site.
Training of staff on spill response plan and procedure.
Sewage disposal/waste water disposal
Sewage & waste water to be discharged into sewer line.
Blockage incidences to be reported to
WSC.
Solid waste disposal Provide suitable solid waste containers.
Temporary storage at the solid waste cubicles.
Contract a licensed solid waste transporter.
Dust Water the ground before excavation.
Provide dust nets at high levels.
Avoid exaction during windy times.
Noise Use of ear protectors by workers.
Recondition engine exhaust systems.
Engine tune-up.
Establish inspection program for equipment.
Oil, chemical and material spills
Establish site Spill control procedures.
Training of workers on spill control procedures/ preparedness.
Off-site maintenance operations.
Spill control kit be availed at the site.
Overload of trucks traffic flow
All vehicles delivering bulk materials to the site to avoid overloading and comply with traffic rules.
Use of appropriate signage.

Authority (NEMA), Popo Road, off Mombasa Road, P.O.
Box 67839–00200, Nairobi.
(b) Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Mineral
Resources, N.H.I.F. Building, Community, P.O. Box 30521, Nairobi.
(c) Provincial Director of Environment, Nairobi Province.
(d) District Environment Officer, Kasarani and Njiru District.
The National Environment Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the
Director-General, NEMA, to assist the Authority in the approval process of the project.
