IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by the Constitution of Kenya, section 14 (2) of the National Assembly and Presidential Elections Act (Cap. 7) and Regulation 41 (2) (b) of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Regulations, the Interim Independent Electoral Commission certifies that Abdi Yusuf Hassan has been declared the winner of the Kamukunji Parliamentary seat respectively following the by-elections held on 18th August, 2011. The results of the by-elections are as follows: (a) Valid votes cast for Abdi Yusuf Hassan were (in figures) 19,030 (in words) nineteen thousand and thirty. (b) Total votes cast against the voters register were (in figures) 40,474 (in words) forty thousand four hundred and seventy-four. (i) Rejected votes (in figures) 721 (in words) Seven hundred and twenty-one. (ii) Total valid votes (in figures) 39,753 (in words) thirty-nine thousand seven hundred and fifty-three (c) Votes cast as per each candidate are as indicated in the schedule respectively.
