APPOINTMENT


IT IS notified for general information that the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports has appointed an Advisory Board and Secretariat whose function will be to among others ensure full implementation of the report on Gender Welfare and Equity in Sports submitted by the taskforce on Gender Welfare in Sports on 19th January, 2022, to facilitate development and implementation as well as review of gender and Gender Based Violence (GBV) policies, to participate in and/or facilitate institutional gender analysis and gender audits, to advocate for gender mainstreaming in sports and sports organizations and its membership shall include the following— (a) Advisory Board (i) Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports (ii) Principal Secretary, State Deparment for Sports Members (i) Paul Ochieng (Prof.) (ii) Catherine Ndereba (Ms.) (iii) Barbra Malowa(Ms.) (iv) Essie Akida (Ms.) (v) Benjamin Wafula (vi) Elizabeth Wangeci Gichuki (vii) Joyce Kebenei (b) Secretariat (i) Diana Watila-Chief Executive Officer (Ms.) (ii) Catherine Njeri Maina (Ms.) (iii) Lorna Tanui (Ms.) (iv) Fardhosa Hassan Boru (Ms.) (v) Patricia Arisi (Ms.) (c) The Functions of the Steering Committee are: (i) to ensure full implementation of the report on gender welfare and equity in sports submitted by the taskforce on gender welfare in sports on 19th January, 2022; (ii) to facilitate development and implementation as well as review of gender and Gender Based Violence policies; (iii) to develop a framework for a multi-agency approach in dealing with gender-based violence in sports and sports organizations; (iv) to advocate for gender mainstreaming in sports and sports organizations; (v) to participate in and/or facilitate institutional gender analysis and gender audits; (vi) to provide a safe environment for sports personnel in their participation in sports activities; (vii) to assesses the progress of gender-related initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness over time; (viii) to organize workshops, training sessions, or awareness campaigns to educate members of the organization about gender-related issues and unconscious bias; (ix) to ensure existence of an elaborate and institutionalized gender mainstreaming implementation structure; (x) to coordinate reporting on the status of gender equality to relevant structures on behalf of the institution; (xi) to regularly review progress of planned gender mainstreaming interventions within the sports sector; 22nd November, 2024 THE KENYA GAZETTE (xii) to receive and disseminate feedback on gender mainstreaming on behalf of the institution and action as appropriate; (xiii) to undertake such other function, powers and activities as the Cabinet Secretary may direct as may be incidental to; The term of the Committee shall be a period of three (3) years from the date hereof, and such term may be extended for such period as the Cabinet Secretary may consider necessary. The Committee in discharge of its functions shall except as provided shall regulate its own procedure. Dated the 19th November, 2024.
