PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordinhtion (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authoriry (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for fte above proposed project.
The proponent, National Water Conservation and Pipeline
Corporation, is proposing to develop Bosto Dam Project located along
Kipsonoi River within the South West Mau Forest Reserve in Bomet
County. The project will target to supply water to parts of Bomet
County, and will serve a population of 603,182 in an estimated area of l052km2 including key urban centres such as Bomet, Sotik, Silibwet and Kapkatet. The supply will also covcr the rural areas in Konoin, Bomet Central, Sotik and Chepalungu constihrencies. The.project is to be designcd for a 20 ycars supply period (as recommended by Manual for Water Supply Systems in Kenya, 2005) with the initial year as
2O2O in order to allow for four-year implementation period. The design horizon will be the yeet 2M0. The estimated total water demand for the proposed supply area is 80,238 m3 lday while the design water demand is estimated as 80,238m3.

The subgrade excavation and filling of side slope should be protected !o control the water erosion caused by the excavation.
Avoid fragmentation or destruction of critical terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
Minim2e unnecessary clearing of riparian vegetation along Kipsonoi
River during construction.
Ensure proper demarcation and delineation of the project area !o be affected by construction works.
Avoid construction worker's camps within protccted areas.
Design and implement an appropriate landscaping programmc to help in rc- vegetation of affected project areas after construction.
Construction activities should only be restricted to the designated corridor in sensitive biodiversity sites in the Mau
Forest Reserve.
Arcas from which vcgetation is to bc removed are to be tlelincated prior to removal and vegetation is only to be removed from these arcas.
KWS rangers should be engaged by the contractor on full time basis in order to ensure comprehcnsive wildlife security during thc construction works in the
South West Mau Forest Reserve.
