The area is situated in Kakuzi/Mitubiri and Kimorori/Wempa Wards in Murang'a County. The Plan area covers land on both sides of the Mitubiri Transport Corridor from the railway crossing to the proposed sanitary land fill and around the site. The exercise will be carried out under Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (NaMSIP) whose aim is to improve services in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area covering five (5) counties of Nairobi City, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado and Murang'a. The Plan intends to create a buffer zone and regulate development around the transport corridor and the land fill in order to mitigate against negative environmental impacts and encroachment. The planning exercise will include: stakeholder engagement, establishment of the Plan boundary and socio-economic survey as the basis for the Plan. As a result, the Murang'a County Government declares Mitubiri Landfill and its surroundings a special planning area. Developments in the area are suspended for a period of six (6) months from the date of this notice, being the period for the preparation of the Mitubiri/Gikono Zoning Plan. Development permission granted by the Muranga County Government in the area shall not be affected by this suspension if the development in respect of which the permission was granted has commenced not less than six (6) months before the suspension of development of the kind in the special planning area. The planning process is participatory as required by the constitution and other statutory provisions and therefore all stakeholders are invited to participate.
