The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures: Impacts Proposed Mitigation Measures Loss of vegetation • Practice agro-forestry on at least 10% of their farms. Introduce vegetation strips to unproductive land to compensate for what will be cleared. Identify endangered species of trees to be planted in other places where they will not be affected. Consider re-vegetation around the upstream points and along the river. Ground and surface • Ensure blasting and drilling are not water pollution undertaken to water table level. • Pumping of water out of the mines in the event of flooding. • Secure the site with an impermeable boundary wall. • Maintain maximum existing vegetation coverage and plant more trees along the boundary wall. The National Environment Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, NEMA, to assist the Authority in the decision making process of the plan.
