GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 3207

IT IS notified for general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage has appointed the Steering Committee and Central Management Committee for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games. 1. The mandate of the Steering Committee shall be to— (a) oversee the preparation of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games; (b) review and approve work plans, budgets and any other relevant proposals made by the Central Management Committee; (c) approve the final list of athletes and officials that are to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games; and (d) provide overall oversight on the activities of the athletes and officials that are to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games. 2. The mandate of the Central Management Committee shall be to— (a) conduct trials to verify the qualification of the athletes that are to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games; (b) consult with the respective federations of athletes to select the teams of the athletes that are to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games; (c) prepare work plans, budgets and any other proposals for consideration by the Steering Committee; (d) co-ordinate with the event organizers on all the activities of the athletes and officials that are to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games; (e) prepare a final report on the fulfilment of the mandate of the Committee; and (f) perform any other duty that may be assigned to it by the Steering Committee. 3. The Steering Committee shall comprise of— (a) Amb. The members of the Steering Committee and the Organising Committee shall serve for a term of eight (8) months, with effect from the 25th of January, 2022. 6. The activities of the Steering Committee and the Central Management Committee shall be funded through the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage and the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K). 7. Upon the completion of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games, the Central Management Committee shall— (a) compile a report of the events and audited accounts to be submitted to the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage within three months from the date of completion; and (b) surrender all assets, including any credit balance in the bank account and moveable assets to the Principal Secretary, State Department of Sports.
