PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proposed project entails the design, construction and operation of a 90.5 km buried water pipeline and ancillary infrastructure. The pipeline is designed to transport water from the Turwel Gorge Reservoir (referred to as the "Turwel Darn") in the West pokot to the central processing facility, located adjacent to the settlement of Nakukulas in Turkana County, Water abstracted from the dam will be pumped to a break tank close to Lokichar town and then gravity fed to the central processing facility, The topography of the proposed site slopes up gently, an approximate grade of 8% from the south of the site where the current entrance is located for about 250 meters from the southern site boundary to a relatively flat plateau.
