IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 44 (3) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife gazettes the Plan in the Schedule hereto. SCHEDULE Tsavo West National Park Management Plan (hereinafter referred to as ‘‘the Plan’’) is defined mainly by the sociological and environmental functions. ‘The plan defines each programme’s purpose, the guiding principles, management objectives and actions that stakeholders of Tsavo West National Park have designed to address ecological, tourism, community, security. and operational issues in Tsavo West Nationa! Park and adjacent areas. The plan addresses threats to Tsavo West National Park through management interventions measures provided for by the zonation schenie outlined in the pian and management actions under the Plan's five management programmes. The Plan’s zoning scheme and management programmes are outlined in the following sections: Zoning Scheme The Tsavo W st Nationa! Park 1s divided into three zones: High Use, Low Use end Wi'derness. These internal zones set limits of use to control legal utiliz...or by visitors. Management Programme (a) Ecological Management Programme The main function of the ecological management programme is to provide the information base upon which other management programmes carry out intervention activities. Important activities under the ecological programme include the collection and collation of data, and the direction, planning and management of research. (b) Tourism Development and Management Programme The Tourism Management Programme ts primarily for the management of tourist facilities and activities. and the tourists themselves, and the collection of revenues and the tourism statistics. (c) Community Partnership and Conservation Education Programme The main thrust of this programme is to manage human wildlife conflicts and encourage the establishment of community conservancies. Conservation education and awareness creation is an important tool for this programme. (d) Security Programme The functions of the Security Management Programme include conducting anti-poaching activities, controlling illegal use of resources, providing safety and security for visitors, staff. wildlife the security of KWS assets and property. (e) Park Operations Programme The Park Operations Programme deals with day-to-day park management and addresses staff matters. vehicles, plants and machinery requirements among others. A Park Management Committee shall be established after the plan is gazette to steer the Tsavo West National Park management plan implementation, monitoring. evaluation and where necessary plan review.
