THE RATING ACT
(Cap. 267)
RATES FOR 2002
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 15 (1) and 16 (3) of the
Rating Act, notice is given that the City Council of Nairobi, has levied the undermentioned rates for 2002. These become due on January, 2002, and are payable at City Hall, Nairobi, by 31st May, 2002. If any rates remain unpaid after 31st May, 2002, interest at the rate of two per centum per month or part thereof will be payable to the City
Council.
Rates are a debt to the City Council and whilst every effort shall be made to deliver a demand note to every rateable owner, failure to receive the same will not be held to absolve the debtor from any liability to penalty for rates remaining unpaid after 31st May, 2002.
Site Value Rates for 2002:
(a) General rates of 1 per centum of the unimproved site value of land as appearing in the 2001 Valuation Roll.
(b) Reduction or remissions of payment of rates levied as above in respect of the land specified below for the year 2002 in accordance with section 22 (2) of the Rating Act (Cap. 267) that is :
Land designated for residential purposes—Rates equivalent to 0.4 per centum of the unimproved site value.
For the City area transferred from County Council of Kiambu
(a) Under the provision of section 5 (a) and section 22 (2) of the
Rating Act, a rate be levied for the year 2002 in the area of the City transferred from County Council of Kiambu as follows:
(i) For every agricultural plot at KSh. 800 per plot.
(ii) In Kangemi and Riruta at KSh. 1,600 per plot.
(iii) For commercial! plots in Kangemi and Riruta—
Single size shop plots—KSh. 1,800.
Double size shop plots—KSh, 2,400.
Treble size shop plots—KSh. 1,800.
Vacant plots—KSh. 1,800.
Temporary plots—KSh. 1,300.
(iv) For plots in other shopping areas—
Single size shop plots—KSh. 1,300
Double size shop plots—KSh. 1,800.
Treble size shop plots—KSh. 2,400.
Vacant plots—KSh. 1,800.
Temporary plots—KSh. 1,300.
(v) For old emergency villages at KSh. 600 per plot.
(b) Kawangware and Dagoretti Corner areas, rates to be charged on plot as opposed to former fixed rates.
That in compliance with section 16 (3) of the Rating Act (Cap.
267), interest shall be charged and become payable at the rate of two per centum per month on any rates levied as aforesaid and remaining unpaid after 31st May, 2002 and for the purposes of this resolution part of the month shall be reckoned as one month.
