I AND II FOR TELEPHONE OPERATORS, 1998 IT IS notified for general information that this year’s Occupa- tional Tests Nos. I and II for telephone operators, details of which are set out in Personnel General Letter No. 21 of 25th April, 1979 and No. 9 of 21st March, 1980, will be conducted in Nairobi. The examination will be held between 20th and 24th April, 1998 as follows: (a) The written English language examination will be held on Monday, 20th April, 1998. (b) The oral English test (for blind candidates only, if any) will be conducted here in Nairobi, on Monday, 20th April, 1998 at 9.30 a.m. The venue for the oral test will be notified to the candidates concerned through their heads of depart- ment soon after the registration of candidates. (c) The programme for the practical test for all the candidates will be drawn up soon after the closing date for registration of candidates (see paragraph 4 below) and will be released later to all the ministries/departments in another circular. 2. Eviciitity to ENTER The occupational test will be open to civil servants only who must be Kenyan citizens and in case of: (i) Occupational Test No. I— _ Should be serving telephone operators grade I (job group “F”), with at least two (2) years’ service in the grade; (ii) Occupational Test No. I— should be serving telephone operators grade II (job group “E”) who have been confirmed in their appointment and admitted to the permanent and pensionable establishment and with at least three (3) years’ service in that grade; (iii) candidates who attempt and fail occupational test Nos. I and II will not be allowed to take them until after a period of two years from the date they first attempted the tests. 3, CONDITIONS FOR PASSING THE OCCUPATIONAL TESTS In order to pass any of the occupational tests, a candidate is required to pass both the written English (or oral English test in the case of blind telephone operators) and the practical test at one and the same sitting. No partial passes are allowed. 4. APPLICATION Forms Candidates should complete their application forms in (tripli- cate) and submit two original and duplicate copies to the Public Service Commission through their permanent secretaries/heads of department. A specimen of the application form is shown as appendix to this circular letter. The form should be reproduced by each ministry/department as required. Completed forms should be submitted to the Secretary, Public Service Commission of Kenya, Commission House, Harambee Avenue, P.O. Box 30095, Nairobi, so as to reach him not later than 17th March, 1998. Permanent secretaries/heads of department must ensure that the entry forms are: '(a) Filled correctly in triplicate and one copy remains with the ministry. (b) Certified correct in all respects. (c) Received from eligible candidates only as stipulated in paragraph 2 (i) to (ii) above. (d) Submitted to the Commission by the closing date i.e., on or before 17th March, 1998. (e) Accompanied by corect registration fee of KSh. 600 per candidate. 5. REGISTRATION FEES Each entry must be accompanied by a registration fee of KSh. 600 only. This fee shall not be refundable under any circumst- ances, and should be remitted in either Kenya. Government cheques or banker’s cheques, payable to the Secretary, Public Service Commission of Kenya. Personal cheques, money orders will not be accepted. 6. EXAMINATION CENTRE The examination will be done in Nairobi only and not in the provinces as has previously been the case. 7. EXAMINATION STATIONERY Examination stationery and question papers for the written English language examination will be supplied to the candidates. Candidates will be required to have their own pens, rulers, pencils and ink. No other items of stationery such as books, magazines, files, etc. will be permitted into the examination room. 8. ANSWER COVERS It will be necessary for each candidate to write clearly the name of the examination, subject title, examination index number and the name of the examination centre on the answer cover provided. 9. CERTIFICATES No certificates will be issued to successful candidates but their names will be published in both the Kenya Gazette and in a circular letter addressed to all the permanent secretaries/heads of department.
