IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Article 179 and Article 183 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and by section 36 of the County Governments Act, 2012, and pursuant to the mandate for the naming of streets and roads under the Physical and Land Use Planning Act, 2019, the Governor of Mombasa County gives notice of the naming of the public roads set out in the Schedule below, in honour of distinguished persons who have made significant contributions to the political, social and economic development of Mombasa County. The naming has been undertaken pursuant to numerous requests and representations received from residents, professional and veterans' associations, and community leaders across the County, and is intended to honour Mombasa's prominent heroes, to preserve the history of the County, and to enhance a sense of community pride and identity among its residents. The commemorative names set out in the Schedule are in addition to, and do not affect, the classification or reference number of the respective roads under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007.
