THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT
(Cap. 387)
ACT
PURSUANT to section 59 of the Environmental Management and
Co-ordination Act, Cap. 387, the National Environment Management
Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment
Study Report for the above proposed project.
The proponent, Tsavo Pioneer Eldoret Limited, proposes to construct a 15-storey residential block comprising of one basement for parking, ground floor for parking spaces and shops while 1st to 15th floors will comprise of 615No. Residential apartment units (210No.
studios, 300No. one bedroom units and 105No. two bedroom units), associated amenities and facilities on plot L.R. No. Eldoret
Municipality Block 9/1932 and Eldoret Municipality Block 9/1933 along Elgeyo Road, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures:
Impacts Mitigation Measures
Soil erosion • Control earthworks by water management, monitoring soil properties and equipment efficiency.
• Provide soil erosion control and conservation
Impacts Mitigation Measures structures (landscape modifications, trap sediments, stabilize slopes).
• Landscaping shall be done on project completion.
Loss of vegetation • Only area earmarked for development should be cleared.
• Plant trees, shrubs and flowers on remaining open spaces.
Changes in hydrology/ impended drainage/deep excavations
• A geotechnical survey has been conducted and the recommendations thereof to be followed.
There shall be no blasting during excavation.
• A methodology for excavation shall be generated as required by NCA.
• Astute reference to the geotechnical survey report and Civil works designs
• Install cascades to break the impact of water flowing in the drains.
• Ensure efficiency of drainage structures through proper design and maintenance
• Provide gratings to the drainage channels.
Air pollution • Stockpiles of earth should be sprayed with water or covered during dry seasons.
• Provide dust masks for personnel in dusty areas.
• Sensitize construction workers on pollution control measures.
• Cover all trucks hauling soil, sand and other loose materials.
Noise pollution • Install suitable barriers to shield compressors and other small stationary equipment where necessary.
• Display signs to indicate construction activities.
• Maintain all equipment.
• The working hours should be in line with
NEMA licensing conditions.
• Adhere to provisions of Noise Prevention and
Control Rules 2005,
