Judicial Service Act, the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya appointed a Technical Committee to develop a Criminal Procedure Bench Book for the Judiciary_ aimed at providing judicial officers with a thorough and comprehensive guide and reference resource on all aspects of criminal procedure and thereby subtanstively and procedurally improving the dispensation of justice through the criminal trial process vide notice number 124 of 2016 dated 13th November, 2015. GAzETTENoricE No. 4425 REPUBLIC OF KENYA THE JUDICIARY VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF DEPUTY CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA (1 POST) PURSUANT to section 3, Part II, First Schedule of the Judicial Service Act (No. 1 of 2011) the Judiciary declares vacant the position of Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya. Job details: Ref: V/No. 4/2016 Terms of Service: Constitutional Office Tenure of office: As per Article 167 of the Constitution. Functions: The Deputy Chief Justice shall deputize the Chief Justice and be the Vice-President of the Supreme Court. Specific functions will entail: 1.Being responsible to the Chief Justice in the exercise of the duties assigned to him or her. 2.Discharge any other functions as required of him or her by the Constitution and any other legislation. Constitutional and Statutory Requirements for Appointment: For appointment lo the position of Deputy Chief Justice, the applicant must possess the following minimum qualifications: 1.Hold a law degree from a recognized university or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction; 2.Possess at least fifteen (15) years' experience as a superior court judge or. a distinguished academic, judicial officer, legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; or 3.Hold the qualifications mentioned in paragraph (1) and (2) above for a period amounting, in the aggregate to fifteen (15) years. (Note: Experience gained in Kenya or in another Commonwealth Country with a common-law jurisdiction will be considered) - 4.Be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality. 5.Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution. 6.In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, making of good judgments in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service. The appointment shall be made in accordance with Article 166 (1) (a) (2) (3) of the Constitution of Kenya as read with the First Schedule of the Judicial Service Act, 2011.
